Colorado Mountain College is our educational partner. A Community College right here in the Rockies that offers a handful of 4-year degrees as well, CMC has been the ideal compliment to a group of men working their way back into main stream education. CMC has dedicated guidance counselor Craig Farnum to us as the Liaison between Jaywalker U, our men, and the College. Craig has been instrumental in illuminating a clear portal back to school through transcript acquisition, schedule building and ongoing academic support.
Craig earned his B.A. in Psychology and minor in Spanish from St. Michael’s College in Vermont. After graduating from college, he pulled his 12-year old brother out of middle school a month early and spent the next month driving across the country visiting national parks and exploring. After settling at the base of the Sierra Nevada’s, Craig earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Over the past 12 years, he worked as a middle and high school counselor and department chair while pursuing his doctorate in Counselor Supervision. Craig, his wife, Colleen, and their dog, Rambo, are now settled in Carbondale where Craig is a College Counselor and instructor at CMC.
For our part, Jaywalker is now the main resource on campus for any issues and training related to alcohol and drug abuse. Our Jaywalker U Program Director, Janet DeMars is available to help with prevention, education and intervention on campus as needed. The relationship has been solid and rooted in the common mission of each organization to give non-traditional students a chance to succeed in college.
